Counseling and therapy is helpful for many situations related to psychological, emotional, relationship, parenting, family and employment problems. You will get more out of therapy if you are informed and take an active role in finding and selecting your counselor or psychotherapist. Many problems may need only a few sessions while others can require several months of counseling to produce lasting benefits.
Psychotherapy is self-limiting for most difficulties; however, many people continue therapy or counseling for personal growth, relapse prevention and for support for more than a year. Your right to confidentiality is protected under State law. There are a few legal and ethical situations in which confidentiality is not absolute.
