Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy

Counseling and therapy are helpful for many situations related to psychological, emotional, relationship, parenting, family and employment problems. You will get more out of therapy if you are informed and take an active role in finding and selecting your counselor or psychotherapist. Many problems may need only a few sessions while others can require several months of psychotherapy to produce lasting benefit. Psychotherapy is self-limiting for most difficulties; however, many people continue therapy or counseling for personal growth, relapse prevention and for support for more than a year. Your right to confidentiality is protected under State law. There are a few legal and ethical situations in which confidentiality is not absolute. We can provide you with our policies regarding these situations. <--top>

Counseling for Marriages and Couples

Marriage counseling or couples therapy helps people improve their relationships and resolve conflicts. Relationship counseling gives couples the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, problem solve and even argue in a healthier way. Marriage counseling is provided by our licensed marriage and family therapists. Our therapists provide the same mental health services as other therapists, but with one major difference — we focus primarily on a couple's relationship. Marriage counseling is often short term. You may need only a few sessions to help you resolve a crisis. Or you may need marriage counseling for several months, particularly if your relationship has deteriorated greatly. As with individual psychotherapy, you typically see a marriage counselor once a week. <--top>

Adoption Counseling

Adoption is an event that has a life-long effect on everyone involved. Adoption brings unique rewards as well as challenges to families, and sometimes families will need or want professional help as concerns or problems arise. Our professional staff is always ready to help out with adoption issues and can often help prevent issues common to adoption from becoming more serious problems that might be more difficult to resolve. The duration of therapy will vary depending on the kinds of problems being addressed. Some families build a relationship with a therapist over years while other families might find they need a therapist's help only once or twice. Sometimes a difficulty a child is experiencing is obviously connected to adoption, but sometimes the connection is not readily apparent. On the other hand, issues that seem to be related to adoption, after investigation, turn out not to be related to adoption at all. Our therapists with adoption knowledge and experience are best suited to help families identify connections between problems and adoption and to plan effective treatment strategies. <--top>
